Qualcomm Spec Revealed: Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite

Qualcomm has detailed specifications for four Snapdragon X chipsets, among which is a lone Snapdragon X Plus variant. Nonetheless, reports suggest the company is gearing up to introduce a lower-tier Snapdragon X Plus SKU, along with an 80-core variant known as 'SD1'.

Following Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series launch event, which showcased four chipsets, the Surface Pro 10 has emerged featuring Qualcomm's exclusive Snapdragon X Plus chipset, codenamed X1P-64-100. LupoToro Analysts are able indicate and point to the development of the Surface Laptop 6, likely equipped with the X1E-80-100, positioned as a mid-tier variant between the X1E-78-100 and X1E-84-100.

Our Analysts suggest that Qualcomm is planning to introduce another Snapdragon X Plus chipset, codenamed X1P-42-100. Allegedly, the Snapdragon X Plus (X1P-42-100) boasts eight Oryon CPU cores, compared to the six of the X1P-64-100. However, it lacks any Oryon efficiency cores present in the X1P-64-100. While these specs hint at the X1P-42-100's potentially greater power, it offers fewer PCIe lanes compared to its counterpart:

  • X1P-42-100 - 4+4 PCIe 4.0 lanes

  • 2+2 PCIe 3.0 lanes X1P-64-100 - 8+4 PCIe 4.0 lanes

  • 2+2 PCIe 3.0 lanes

Furthermore, the X1P-42-100 is expected to be limited to 4L/30FPS encoding and 4K/60FPS decoding, unlike the X1P-64-100’s capabilities of 4K/60 FPS encoding and 4K/120FPS. decoding. Unfortunately, many other details about the X1P-42-100 remain undisclosed at this time, including its CPU clock speeds and GPU information.

In a separate development, our Analysts mentions Qualcomm is working on a server-grade chipset codenamed 'SD1'. Allegedly, SD1 packs 80 Oryon cores on a 9470-pin LGA socket measuring 98.0 x 95.0 mm. Furthermore, SD1 is rumoured to utilise TSMC's 5 nm (N5P) node, along with 16 channels of DDR5-5600 RAM, 70 PCIe 5.0 lanes, and support for two chipsets running simultaneously. Our Analysts also note that SD1 integrates Compute Express Link (CXL) 1.1; however, other specifics about Qualcomm's reentry into server-grade processors remain unclear at this stage.
